The Nursery Environment

All precautions have been taken to ensure a safe and secure environment at all times.

The Nursery has three main rooms:

baby sleepingBaby room 0-2 years

The baby room is a warm, safe and friendly environment. It is equipped with toys for the age range which encourages the children to develop through play. Snooze mats are provided for those that need their sleep and a separate area available for nappy changing when required.

Primary rooms 2-5 years

The primary children have two areas that are filled with stimulating resources that again encourages the children's development. Part of the day will be free play whilst other activities will be more structured developing the children ready for future school life. One of the areas also becomes a quiet area for those that may need a nap during the day.

At Cygnets Day Nursery we provide a safe stimulating environment for children ranging from 3 months to 5 years. The setting provides experiences for the children with respect to their individual needs through which they will develop their learning. This is planned from the curriculum (The Early Years Foundation Stage). There are seven areas of learning and development and are used to shape our observations, activities, planning and assessments. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are fundamental, work together and move through to support development in all other areas. They are crucial for igniting children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. These three areas, the prime areas are:

  • Communication and language

  • Physical development

  • Personal, social and emotional development.

We must also support children in four specific areas, that include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society. The specific areas are:

  • Literacy

  • mathematics

  • understanding the world

  • expressive arts and designs.
